Trevor Ridley

On Saturday 26th October Concord Rangers first beat Stanway Rovers in the quart finals of the EWFL over 50s Cup. They then dispatched Beacon Hill Rovers in the semi final. The final followed where they took on Chelmsford City. This was an excellent game between two top walking football teams with Concord Rangers just edging the contest with a 1-0 win.

The third/fouth place was contested between Billericay Town and Beacon Hill. With the score being all square at the final whistle (1-1) Billericay took third place with a 3-2 win on penalties.

WFLA Inter League Cup

14 May 2024

Simon Crump

Saturday 11th May saw a squad of eight Essex league players travel to Redditch to compete in the Walking Football Leagues Alliance national Over 50s Inter League Cup. The tournament was played to the new FA Walking Football Laws of the Game which meant that four team running offences would be punished with a penalty against the team.

With eight Leagues from across England taking part teams were split into two groups with

Essex being drawn in Group B along with Dorset, Oxfordshire and Birmingham.

First up for Essex were Dorset with the team losing 2-0.

The second game was against Oxfordshire which again saw the team lose 2-0.

Finally, in Essex's third game the team got a win under their belt against Birmingham winning 2-1.

The penultimate game of the day and Essex were up against Lincolnshire with the team winning 1-0.

The Lincolnshire result meant Essex played Dorset again in the final match of the day, the 5th/6th place play off. This was a tough game which ended up drawn 1-1 and meant Essex finished 5th on the day. A good result given this was the teams first competitive outing.

Over 50s Rep Team Needs Players

7 January 2024

Simon Crump

It has been decided the Essex Walking Football League will run an Over 50s Walking Football Representative side. The aim of this team is to enhance the reputation of the League by representing it at County level.

Simon Crump, Manager EWFL 50s rep side, intents to run an Open training session with a view to picking a squad to train and play together.

With that in mind Simon has sent out this as an open invitation to any over 50 player registered to play for a team in the Essex Walking Football League Competitions. If you feel you are available and wish to represent the league you will be invited along to the Open training session from which a squad will be selected.

Should you be selected for a squad you will be expected to fund your own travel arrangements for all games, we will look at car sharing etc. to keep costs down.

A kit will be supplied by the League.

Any friendlies will hopefully be no further than two hours away from our home ground, however entry into tournaments may mean an overnight stay on occasion.

This will be county level standard and all games will be of that standard.

If you feel this is something you wish to be involved with then training session will be on Saturday afternoons at Chelmsford. There will be an expectation that players regularly attend training sessions should they be selected for the squad. The exact dates of the open training session and on going squad meetings will be decided once Simon has gauged numbers.

Please contact Simon Crump via his EMAIL: Simon1SB@outlook.com  in order to register your interest.
